Frogs....
This was a silly, silly movie. Made in 1972 and starring Sam Elliot (best known for his portayal of Patrick Swayze's Bouncer-Mentor in "Road House") Joan Van Ark (who apparently must have been pretty hot at one point, perhaps the 60's) and that old grumpy guy... Ray Milland, yeah he's in it too.
So, you got this disfunctional, rich, southern family that stepped right out of a Tennessee Williams play, and they live on an island somewhere in the south. The Island is home to all kinds of creepy crawly things like snakes, lizards, turtles, spiders and of course... FROGS!
This family just really really hates nature, so they've been covering the island in pesticides and other poisons to try and get rid of the frogs, but! THE FROGS HAVE HAD JUST ABOUT ENOUGH! They've unionized and organized and had meetings and sent out memos cuz they're mad as HELL and they aren't gonna take it anymore!!!!!
That's when Sam Elliot shows up, and as near as i can tell, he's a jaded ecologist photographer named Pinkett Smith. That's right.... Jaded Pinkett Smith! POOM! He's instantly a hit with the family cuz he's a common type man who can do things that rich people can't, like walk around the island and diagnose death and stuff.
I'm all for suspending disbelief and stuff, but this movie just asks too much of the viewer. The scene with the guy in the greenhouse when the lizards climb up the shelves and start knocking over bottles of poison to concoct some kind of witches brew among the broken glass and pools of poison on the floor to asphyxiate the guy was too much, and it just got sillier after that. And the pre-ending chiller moment with a close-up freeze frame of a disinterested frog's face that was supposed to evoke horror in the viewer was kind of silly too.
Overall, this is a very, very silly movie.

BTW-Joan Van Ark...she that chick from Knot's Landing? If she is, she showed up on my wifey's soap the other day. She looks exactly like she did in Knot's Landing! Same clothes and everything! It's like they got her out of the props closet or something.
